South Mandarin Library
Jacksonville, Florida
The new freestanding 25,000 sf branch library facility was designed in association with Harvard Jolly Inc., as part of the Better Jacksonville Plan that includes the largest library expansion plan in the country. This $2.4 million facility incorporates areas such as a Children’s Area, Teen Area, Multi-purpose Room & Electronic Classroom, along with Adult Areas. The building’s exterior incorporates a mission-like aesthetic with vertical tower elements, careful detailing, and warm, earth-tone colors reminiscent of the library’s surrounding context. Interior spaces blend wood, solid surface material, pendant lighting and an open, curved canopy highlighting the circulation desks which all help to create a more fun, friendly interior for the users.
