TTV Architects was hired by the City of Jacksonville to create a new community landmark that would accommodate future community events for the Mayport Village area. The community center was designed as a modern interpretation of the Pre-Civil War vernacular of Mayport’s Historic past. The locals had outgrown the previous community center, which was a small trailer across the street, within the Michael B. Scanlan boat ramp park.
Inspired by the former local Gavagan Hotel and the King’s Residence, the project incorporates a two-tiered veranda with posts and rails (honoring balustrades of that era) and a decorative three-window wide operable cupola at the top. The 2-story, 8,254 sf building includes a large community event room, warming kitchen, office spaces, elevator, storage, site parking to accomodate large boat trailers, and expansive outdoor balconies.
